Macalloy Tie Rods / Tension Bars were used in what has become known as one of the most spectacular airports in the world. The products supplied by Macalloy were integral to this airport design.
Macalloy tie rods are used to support the glass façade at Dubai International Airports terminal 3. The project required bespoke strength material to be manufactured, requiring the smallest diameter bar possible to minimize the effect of the structural steelwork on the patterned glass. Macalloy manufactured a 620 N/mm2 system for the project.
On construction the building had the largest floor space of any building in the world.
