The Macalloy Bar – The Foundation Anchor Bolt Solution for on-shore Wind Turbines
The ‘Macalloy Bar’ was first launched within the construction industry in 1948 as the worlds first post tensioning bar. It was developed initially for use in prestressed and post tensioned concrete construction. The benefits of using the Macalloy bar have been widely recognised across the construction industry and is now used extensively for wind turbine projects. Download our brochures below for more information. Alternatively you can contact us; the details can be found at the bottom of this page.
High Strength Bolt with Excellent Fatigue Properties
The Macalloy bar provides a high strength steel bar with excellent fatigue properties ideally suited to be used as wind turbine anchor bolts in anchor bolt cages in onshore concrete gravity based foundations.
The Macalloy bar provides technical advantages over the standard 8.8 and 10.9 bolts currently used and can provide significant cost savings.
The Macalloy bar has an ultimate failing load of 1035 N/mm2 and a fatigue detail category (kerbgruppe) of 80. The Macalloy bar can be comfortably stressed to 70% (or even up to 80%) of its failing load during installation.
Save money – use less, or smaller diameter, bars and reduce installation and maintenance costs.
Using Macalloy bars as wind turbine foundation anchor bolts with higher strength and fatigue properties allows for smaller diameter and/or less bars to be used in the foundation.
The Macalloy bars have excellent relaxation properties and low lock off losses, helping to reduce installation time and eliminate or reduce the regularity of the need to re-stress bolts after installation.
The Macalloy bar can be supplied with factory applied Denso tape. Denso tape is grease impregnated tape solution that provides guaranteed corrosion protection for well over the usual maximum 30 years design life of an onshore wind turbine. The Denso tape solution provides significant advantages over the traditional duct and heat shrink tubing applications and is a more cost effective solution.
Macalloy can also supply with duct and grout and provide alternative solutions for corrosion protection of exposed ends.
The Macalloy bar has European CE marking under the ETAG 13 approval and is approved for use in wind turbine foundations by Germanischer Lloyd.
